Students may require housing arrangements due to disability accommodations. There are two possible avenues for ensuring your housing needs are met.
(Both processes require the submission of forms through the AUP Status Page. These forms are available to students who have completed payment of the confirmation deposit 鈥 the checklist may take 24 to 48hours to update following payment of the deposit).
If none of the available housing options within our AUP Housing roster fits your disability or medical needs, you can submit a medical exemption. To do so through your AUP Status Page:
You will be asked to provide documentation to support your medical exemption request.听The document must include all components to be accepted:
To learn more about documentation requirements, please visit our听Accessibility and Accommodations听page.
Students who are approved for a medical exemption can receive housing assistance via the housing database.
The process for requesting disability accommodations for priority housing placement at AUP is managed by the Accommodations Coordinator in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) in collaboration with the Housing office.听
Students with disabilities may be eligible for accommodations in the university鈥檚 housing. Students can request housing accommodations and provide supporting documentation through the听AUP Status Page听by completing the following steps: 听
Once your request for housing accommodations has been reviewed, if approved, a review will be conducted with ARC and Housing to determine if those needs can be met within AUP鈥檚 university housing. If it is determined that the needs cannot be accommodated, students will receive a medical exemption from the housing requirement and assistance in seeking housing that best suits their needs outside of the AUP Housing offer.
To be eligible, students must meet the posted deadlines and follow all policies related to the housing selection process. To learn more about documentation requirements, please visit our听Accessibility and Accommodations听page.
Priority housing for accommodation is issued on a first-come-first- serve basis. The deadline for request priority is May 4, 2025. While late requests for accommodations may be submitted, such requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and it is less likely that the university will be able to grant them as there will be limited availability following the first round of housing assignments.
Yes, you still need to submit housing preferences along with your disability accommodations form. Our housing office will take your preferences into account in the final assignment; we will prioritize, however, the guidelines and guidance provided by the Academic Resource Center to ensure that your housing assignment meets the needed accommodations outlined in your request.
If none of the available housing meets your accommodation needs, you will be automatically approved for a medical exemption allowing you to seek housing outside of the AUP Housing offer. Students who receive a medical exemption can also secure housing with assistance from the housing office through the AUP Housing Database typically reserved to returning and graduate students.
If the housing option within the AUP Housing offer that best suits your accommodation needs is no longer available because it has been fully assigned to other incoming students, you may request to be placed on a waitlist for that housing option; you will be offered that housing reservation in priority should any spots open following cancellations.
Students can request housing accommodations during the semester if they wish to switch to an AUP Housing option that better suits their needs; students should contact the Accommodations Coordinator in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) to start that process. Please note, however, that the housing office cannot guarantee an immediate housing switch should the housing option be full during the semester. In that case, students will be placed on a waitlist; you will be offered a priority switch to that option should any spots open during the semester. Should the housing option not become available during the semester, you will be given priority in the reassignment process to that housing option for the subsequent semester should spots open following Fall move-outs (for full-year students enrolled for both the Fall and Spring semesters).
